In online mode, the color assignment is random. In offline mode you can choose the color of the checkers. You can do this as follows:
1. Press "Play Offline" on the main screen to open "Game Settings"
2. Under the option "Player Color" choose between "Black", "White" or "Random"
3. Start your game
